That Velvet Sun

I hate that thing my jaw does....it swerves to the side when I take pics. :P

Romper: Buffalo Exchange
Sweater, belt, shorts: Target
Shoes: Faith

So, not sure if it's too noticable, but I redesigned the blog a little! I'm a lot happier with it now. :D

We're in the middle of a tornado warning in my county, so I'm holed up in my dorm right now waiting for the wind and rain to let up. We had a hurricane warning at the beginning of the semester and it blew over pretty quick (no pun intended), so I'm not too worried. Right now, I'm just mad that the storm is making the internet run slow....
We just had a big test in my art history class last night, so my roomie and I plan on chilling out tonight and watching Tangled. I loooove that movie; saw it in theaters twice (but I think I saw Up three of four times) and bought it yesterday. I really want to dress up as Rapunzel for Halloween sometime. :3

Holy Smokes

Yep, still here. I can't believe I thought things would be dying down around this time last week. :o

On the upside, got an "A" on my last illustration (for reasons completely unknown to me...), which is pretty cool for me because last year the same teacher gave me a B as my highest grade. It just feels like a pretty measurable amount of success to me, so I'm basking while I can. :D

Bridesmaid business is driving me up the wall as well; my sister and I are the Best Man and Maid of Honor (respectively) in my older sister's wedding. It's actually sort of ironic, because all of us are generally pretty laid back until it really counts, in which case we go into panic mode. Anyhow, my olde sister's color scheme is...brown and green. Nothing against it, but finding cute, inexpensive-ish brown or green dresses is such a task in itself. But, based on the bride's love of vintage-styled dresses, I think I found the perfect one!

Pretty, right?? So, it just needs to go through...three levels of approval in the wedding heirarchy. But first, a nap.

I love....Colleen Atwood

Ha, all my outfits have been pretty lame lately. Haven't been feeling too fab, and there's really no point fancying-up for three hours of oil painting every other day, right? So, here's my first attempt at a "feature"...or at least a fill-in. :'D

You've probably guessed that I'm into art, and that I like clothes...so, combining these two interests into one fantastic celebrity is...Colleen Atwood!

She has such an amazing sense of design, and a taste for theatrics which I find completely inspiring. Whenever there's a movie featuring her beautiful designs, I can't keep myself away from the theater.
She's worked on everything from Memoirs of a Geisha to Sweeney Todd to Little Women, and I feel her designs lend such an air of uniqueness to a movie which few other costume designers can match.

Night Sky

Dress: Ryu via Midcloth
Sweater: F21
Socks: Betsey Johnson
Boots: Spotted Moth
Wowww...I really haven't made a post in a while. I promised myself that I'd post on Friday, but things just got crazy busy and I'm just getting around to it now. :P
I submitted some of my illustrations with decent grades to the "Best of" show...didn't get in , but I really wasn't expecting to. After walking through the submission room, there was no way my pitiful drawings would get put up alongside of the glorious art from the upperclassmen. Ah, well, figured I'd at least give it a shot, then try again next year.

This is one of the dresses I got from the Cabin Fever sale Modcloth had a few months ago. I'm enamored with Ryu dresses (so much lace!), so to see it at such a great price really made my day. It's really comfy as well...even if it is a bit too dark for a Florida summer. :/

Here's what I've been up to art-wise:

It's a sketch for a music poster we're working on in my Graphic Design class (Melora Creager from Rasputina). The actualy poster is in a different direction entirely now, but I kind of like this one and thought I'd post it anyhow.
Happy Monday!

Room service

Our fantastic room at the Port Orleans. :)

Towel art! I wouldn't let my dad or sister touch them until I could take pics.
See? I do play video games. At times.

Here's a few pictures from my Spring Break! We stayed at my favorite hotel and stuffed our faces with beignets and coffee every morning, then pretty much shopped and played video games for the rest of the time.
I obviously didn't get a lot of work done (like I know I should've...), but it's just so nice to have time off with your family. Even though the Spring semester ends in less than two months for me, I'm still feeling a bit homesick...just for my family, definitely not for the dank coast of California (nothing against CA, it's just that where my family is happens to be the oft spoken-of "place where the sun doesn't shine"). In ny case, they plan on joining me over here and taking on 9 months of beautiful summer weather, which is completely awesome. Until then, though, I get to enjoy it by myself. :/

You're So Sweetly

Dress: Lush
Belt: Target
Jacket: F21

Eeek! A post??
So, yeah, break ends today and we're back to classes tomorrow. However, I had a great time with my family at Disneyworld and Busch Gardens (pictures soon!). It was weird having the dorm to myself last night; everything seemed so quiet after being with my dad and sister all week. We're pretty loud and we laugh a lot, so the silence was a little strange.
This is just what I wore today to go grab some groceries...the denim jacket seemed like a good idea before I left since it was breezy, but it being Florida, the sun came out suddenly and it got ridiculous. Ah, well, I'm sure I'll get to use the jacket soon anyhow. :/

Black and White

Blouse, Skirt: H&M
Belt: Modcloth (from the Floral Designer Dress)

Spring break is nearly in full swing; my family arrives in a few hours and I get to stop lazing around the dorm waiting. I think I've gotten quite a bit done with all the free time away from classes, but not nearly as much as I want to. That seems to be a common theme with breaks, especially when I start trying to plan out big ol' projects. Nope, they never get done (or started).
Still, though, it's nice having free time, even if I'm insanely bored most of the time. At least I cleaned the room....? I guess that counts for something.

Opened My Eyes, Saw it Was You

(Um, me twirling. It's that kind of dress)
Floppy Hat: Target
Dress: Modcloth
Belt: Ruche

Haha, this belt keeps showing up! I guess I just really, really like it. Funny, because when I first hot it in the mail I thought it was too snug...glad it stretched out a bit and made it wearable!
We're just barely out of Feburary and it's Spring Break on my campus as of yesterday...I guess it's fitting seeing as the weather has been beautiful, with the temp. hovering around 80 degrees.
I wanted a floppy hat for a long time because of all the sundresses I have; I figured this would be the perfect kind of summer outfit, especially because of how fantastic and sunny it is. I really don't plan on being outdoors too much this week though, since I'm working on more commissions and going places with my family (they're coming over to visit, very excited!). Ah, irony.

Over our Heads

Dress: Modcloth
Earrings: Claire's

Here it is....the dress I was DYING over for months. I have to say, it's everything I was hoping for! Great fit, flattering (I feel it is), adorable, girly.....*sigh*

So what did my boyfriend say when he saw?
"What's with the old lady dress?"
....
Those are fighting words, mister.

Oh, and here's my illustration self-portrait final! The professor really seemed to like it during crit which is great (my book cover got torn apart...). Soooo, maybe it goes in the exhibition? That might be cool. :D

And exciting news! I get to be on the Modcloth street team! It seriously made my day, since I kind of figured I wouldn't be accepted. So very, very excited. :D
